Safety First

Havel a licensed electrician check the system to give everything a green light before turning on switches. If you notice a "rotten egg" smell, call the gas company immediately. Ensure the home's carbon monoxide (CO) alarms aren't registering any leaks, as carbon monoxide is odourless, tasteless and deadly.

Mitigate Damage

Board up any holes and turn off water supply valves. If possible, move items from a flooded basement to a dry area in the home. Save receipts for materials used, repairs made or even living expenses, if you’ve been displaced.

Health Hazards

Flood cleanup can greatly impact air quality in a home. Failure to remove contaminated materials can present serious long-term health risks. Standing water and wet materials can be a breeding ground for micro-organisms including viruses, bacteria and harmful mould, which can result in allergic reactions or disease. Proper remediation is a must when repairing water damage in the home.
